Accountant: Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to ensure accurate financial records.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for month end and year end close.
  • Produce monthly management accounts and variance analysis for review.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and intercompany balances on a regular basis.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions and reconciliations.
  • Prepare VAT returns and support indirect tax compliance activities.
  • Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations where required.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow monitoring processes.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and calculate depreciation schedules.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for external and internal audits.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, liaising with other departments as necessary.
  • Compile financial information for statutory reporting and tax filings.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to accounting processes and controls.

Accountant: Requirements and Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualification or part qualification such as AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Practical experience in a finance or accounting role, preferably within a corporate or professional services environment.
  • Solid understanding of double entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Familiarity with UK accounting and tax regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to prepare month end accounts and reconcile complex balances.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to work to strict deadlines and manage competing priorities.
