Tax Manager: Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, review and submit corporate tax returns and supporting schedules in accordance with statutory deadlines.
- Manage VAT and other indirect tax compliance, returns and related reconciliations.
- Maintain and review tax provisions and disclosures for statutory and management reporting in line with applicable accounting standards.
- Coordinate and manage tax audits and enquiries from tax authorities, acting as principal contact where required.
- Provide technical tax advice on transactions, restructures, financing, cross border activities and commercial contracts.
- Develop and maintain transfer pricing documentation and ensure compliance with local and international requirements.
- Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to support business objectives while managing tax risk.
- Review and improve tax processes, controls and documentation to strengthen compliance and efficiency.
- Prepare tax forecasts and cash flow estimates for tax payments and liabilities.
- Liaise with external advisors and auditors to obtain specialist tax opinions and ensure alignment on tax positions.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess the impact on the organisation, communicating material changes to stakeholders.
- Support mergers, acquisitions and disposals with tax due diligence and post deal integration advice.
- Lead, coach and develop junior tax staff and coordinate workload across the tax team.
- Maintain a tax risk register and support senior management in governance and compliance reporting.
Tax Manager: Requirements and Qualifications
- Qualified accountant or tax professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA or Chartered Tax Adviser or equivalent experience.
- Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, economics or a related field.
- Minimum five years practical experience in corporate tax, including VAT and transfer pricing.
- Strong technical knowledge of corporate tax legislation and tax compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing tax provisions and working with accounting standards applicable to tax reporting.
- Proven experience managing tax audits and dealing with tax authorities.
- Ability to interpret complex tax legislation and provide clear, commercial advice.
